What skills does an IT tester need?

In order to get a job as an IT tester specialist, you need to have certain skills and abilities. You should know at least one programming language, such as Java, Python or C#. Because your job won’t just be to click through a website, software or app. In order to find bugs and flaws, you need to be able to analyse the code so that you can then find the cause of the problem.

You’ll also need aknowledge of SQL and XML, good communication and organizational skills, analytical thinking, attention to detail and last but not least advanced knowledge of German at least B2 level in both speaking and writing. Of course, being able to speak both English and German is also a big plus for your potential employer.

If you’re just starting out in IT, don’t be discouraged. In junior jobs, you’ll have plenty to keep you busy basics of programming, completed secondary or higher education and above all the desire to learn. Other skills you will learn on the job.

ISTQB certification is one of the most well-known certifications in the field of software application testing. In each country, it is covered by the country’s certification authority, which makes international ISTQB certificate for software testing accepted also abroad.

Unlike the ISTQB certification, which you can get even without previous IT experience, CSTE certification often requires a bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience or six years of experience without a degree to even qualify for the test. It will then assess your understanding of software testing skills, quality control and knowledge of the IT profession.
